Large Batch Kentucky Oaks Lily
Bright, refreshing, and beautifully pink, the Kentucky Oaks Lily Cocktail is the signature sip of Oaks Day and a festive way to celebrate spring in style. Served each year at Churchill Downs during the running of the Kentucky Oaks, this cocktail has become a beloved companion to its more famous counterpart, the Mint Julep.
Made with vodka, cranberry juice, fresh lemon, and a hint of sweetness, the Oaks Lily offers a lighter, fruit-forward alternative that’s just as celebratory. Whether you’re dressing in pink for Oaks Day or simply hosting a spring gathering, this vibrant cocktail brings a touch of Louisville tradition to any occasion.
Mint Julep vs. Oaks Lily: What’s the Difference?
While both cocktails are iconic to Derby season at Churchill Downs, the Mint Julep and the Oaks Lily offer two completely different sipping experiences.
The Mint Julep is a true Southern classic, bourbon, spirit-driven, and served ice-cold with fresh mint in a frosty silver cup. It’s rich, bold, and deeply tied to the traditions of the Kentucky Derby.
The Oaks Lily, on the other hand, is lighter, fruitier, and beautifully pink. Made with vodka, cranberry juice, lemon, and a touch of sweetness, it’s the signature cocktail of the Kentucky Oaks and perfectly complements the festive, springtime atmosphere of Oaks Day.
If you love a strong, classic cocktail, go for the Mint Julep. Prefer something refreshing and easy to sip? The Oaks Lily is your perfect match. Or better yet, serve both and let your guests choose their favorite Derby tradition.
