Kentucky Bourbon Bread Pudding
Inspired by Keeneland’s Recipe by Marc Therrien, Executive Chef of Keeneland Hospitality
You haven’t really been to Kentucky until you’ve had Derby Pie, Kentucky Bourbon Bread Pudding, and been to the Keeneland Racecourse! If you haven’t had the opportunity to savor Keeneland’s famous bread pudding drenched in bourbon sauce, well now, you must try it. Here, you can bring the horse races to you with one of the best recipes in our state! This one is only slightly different than Keeneland’s, but either makes a great addition to any Derby party or large gathering! The best part is how easy (and inexpensive) it is to make!
Yield: 12 servings
Prep:
Ingredients Bourbon Bread Pudding
- 8 cups whole milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 8 eggs, beaten
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 12 Sister Schubert rolls, cut into 1 inch cubes
- 1 cup golden raisins, optional (I leave these out)
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds
Ingredients Bourbon Sauce
- ½ cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cups Kentucky Bourbon (Keeneland uses Maker’s Mark)

Instructions
- Whisk together the milk and sugar, add eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl. Mix well. Stir in diced bread and soak for several hours.
- Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Spray a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan.
- Pour bread mixture into prepared pan, garnish top with almonds and cinnamon.
- Bake until firm in center, about 1 1/2 hours.
- While pudding is baking place softened butter in a mixing bowl and add the powdered sugar, whip until well blended, slowly stirring the Bourbon into the mixture.
- Spread the sauce over the warm bread pudding and serve warm.
- Hint: Serve a la mode!
